Qualitative-Reconstructive Social Research on Lived Experiences of UBI Recipients
The Basic Income Research Group (BIRG) at the Gyeonggi Research Institute (GRI) has released results of a new UBI Opinion Poll in the Republic of Korea. Even though survey research is actually beyond the focus of our network, we inform about these results published by a research group that is a member of our network.
Quote from the summary:
“Our latest UBI Opinion Poll, targeting 10,000 adults, shows 80.8 percent of participants agreeing with a UBI program offering KRW 200,000 to KRW 500,000 per person per month. Only 14.4 percent really opposed UBI offers of KRW 200,000 to KRW 500,000 per month. The Pandemic Income Relief provided by the Gyeonggi Provincial Government in 2020 and 2021, and the National Pandemic Income Relief launched in May 2020 appear to have shifted the public opinion on UBI. As for the feasibility of such income, more than 50 percent of respondents were open to receiving KRW 200,000 per month, with 48 percent of those Koreans also expecting the KRW 200,000-per-month UBI to be introduced in the next three years.”
